NTT DATA helped to create the highest resolution 3D map of the world - in the history of the world. AW3D™, a joint project between NTT DATA and the Remote Sensing Technology Center of Japan (RESTEC), is now the world’s first five-meter-resolution 3D map covering all global land spaces.

The map integrates some three million satellite images taken by the DAICHI Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS), utilising a digital elevation model to provide new data and greater insight into global issues. AW3D™ will help evaluate climate-change risks due to glacial melting, and identify areas vulnerable to tsunamis or landslides caused by large earthquakes. The high-resolution map will also enable companies and governments to plan large-scale construction, infrastructure and transportation projects with a significantly enhanced understanding of the earth they are building upon.

By getting the small things right, we aim to solve problems on a colossal scale.
